CD Cover, back and analysis
CD
Analysis
My CD genre is alternative/indie. I said that the
audience would be for young adults/tenagers.
The design features that I think work well is mainly
the writing. I got this of Dafont.com and I
think it works really well with the picture. I wanted a really simple CD
cover, that wasn’t too busy, and was easy to read and look at, which I think I
have done. I also think the picture work well. It was taken on a disposable
camera in Amsterdam, looking down a river, so it’s a simple and not fussy shot.
I think it also worked well because the writing could be placed right in the
middle, and not look distorted.
Something that I thought went wrong with the project
was that my picture was very dark so it was hard getting the text in the right
place. Orignially, my idea for the back cover was to have the main titles in
the top right corner, and the cd names down the left, but I had to change this
as the black text wouldn’t show up. I didn’t want to use white as I didn’t feel
it would look as good, so I had to make sure I positioned all the text in the
right places. This is also why I used different sized texts for the track names
as, in the darker places, the text would have to be bigger so you could
actually read it.
The things I found difficult about the project was
manily getting used to photoshop. I know knew how to use photoshop from editing
pictures, but found this a lot harder as I had no idea what I was doing because
I wasn’t editing pictures! I did manage to get used to it quite quickly, but
this was the main thing that I found hard about the project.
During the project I learnt how to delete backgrounds
out of text using the magic wand tool and how to free transform images. Also, I
learnt how to create text on photoshop as I had no idea how to!
The band name is ‘Endless Port’, and I wanted this to
stand out so I used a black and white font as the picture is quite dark and
just black wouldn’t have shown up, and using white as well made it look more
creative. The album name is ‘Travels’ and again, used the same font as it was
on the front on the CD so it matched with the main title of the band.
All these CD cases could be classed like mine as the
all have ‘random’ backgrounds with bold, writing in the middle, or, in large
writing on the front. Also, appart from the bright orange ‘Vampire Weekend’
cover, most of the colours aren’t too bright, or have just one colour that is
main, and that stands out.
If I had more time and money I would have got a better
picture, so it wasn’t as dark.

California College of the Arts Undergraduate Viewbook 2012-2013
Its bright colours stand out to everyone, and straight away caught my attention out of any of the other magazines.
The layout of the magazine and posts are all really simple, yet creative, with the bright colours for text boxes so you can easily see the text.
with simple pictures, and not too many its less confusing, and makes sure that at least one page is based on one subject. The photography is clear and not fussy.
It's articles are mainly about the college students currents at the college and how and why they enjoy it, and why they went there.
